Sports at Palo Alto College are in full swing this Fall with student athletes competing on both the intercollegiate and intramural levels.

Intercollegiate sports consist of cross-country track, swimming and fencing. Intramural sports include basketball, water polo, flag football, tennis, ladder tennis, bench press contests, running and walking.

On the intercollegiate level, the remaining cross-country meets will be Oct. 30 at the Leukemia 5-Mile Run Challenge in San Antonio and on Nov. 13 at the National Championships in New York City.

Runner clipartSwimming pre-season started on the Oct. 4, but the first official competition will be on Nov. 12 at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. Palo Alto College will host the Swimmingand Diving National Championships on March 1-4.

Palo Alto will also host a fencing competition on Oct. 23. The Palo Alto fencing club will compete against such big-time universities as Texas A&M, the University of Texas at Austin, Baylor, and Texas Tech.

To participate in any intercollegiate sport, a student must be enrolled full-time--a minimum of 12 hours--and keep a grade point average of 2.0 or above. For information, contact Sports Director Dennis Ryther at 921-5134.

Intramural sports for the remainder of the year consist of a 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Oct. 20, a run/walk challenge on Oct. 23 and a flag-football tournament on Nov. 3 and 10. For more information, contact Patricia Brown, the intramural director, at 921-5234.
