Sports at Palo Alto College are in full swing this Fall with student athletes competing on both the intercollegiate and intramural levels. Intercollegiate sports consist of cross-country track, swimming and fencing. Intramural sports include basketball, water polo, flag football, tennis, ladder tennis, bench press contests, running and walking. On the intercollegiate level, the remaining cross-country meets will be Oct. 30 at the Leukemia 5-Mile Run Challenge in San Antonio and on Nov. 13 at the National Championships in New York City.
Palo Alto will also host a fencing competition on Oct. 23. The Palo Alto fencing club will compete against such big-time universities as Texas A&M, the University of Texas at Austin, Baylor, and Texas Tech. To participate in any intercollegiate sport, a student must be enrolled full-time--a minimum of 12 hours--and keep a grade point average of 2.0 or above. For information, contact Sports Director Dennis Ryther at 921-5134. Intramural sports for the remainder of the year consist of a 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Oct. 20, a run/walk challenge on Oct. 23 and a flag-football tournament on Nov. 3 and 10. For more information, contact Patricia Brown, the intramural director, at 921-5234. |
