construction.  Construction began on April 20, 1911 and was completed by the middle of June of the same year, having a total cost of $2492.  Immediately following this, a sacristy was added to the church.
Dedication ceremonies for the Poth Catholic Church were held on January 12, 1912 with Rt. Reverend Bishop J.W. Shaw presiding.  Reverend John from the diocese of Sioux, City Iowa was temporarily placed in charge of the congregation.  On` May 12, 1912, Reverend J. Heinglmier, pastor of Hobson, was given the Poth parish as a mission. 
The Stations of the Cross, donated by St. Mary's congregation of Wiley, Texas were blessed and erected on November 4, 1912.  On the same day, a new bell was blessed and given the name John the Baptist.  In 1926, electric lights and bathrooms were added to the church
Poth was now in a small boom, when disaster struck.  Early in December 1920, fire completely destroyed the train depot and a short time later, razed the main business district.  Listed among the business place destroyed were: Paul Fahrenthold Grocery Store, O.J. Bomba Drug Store, The First National Bank, Guarantee Hardware Store, and the meat market.  All these building were quickly replaced with modern ones.
In 1922, Mr. Dilworth offered land for the first Lutheran Church to be built in Poth.  The Lutherans accepted the offer and a church was built in 1922 across the street from Dilworth Plaza.  It has since been enlarged.
After the disastrous fires that occurred throughout the years, the young men of Poth decided that the town was in great need of a fire department.  In 1926, a volunteer fire department was organized, with Alex Klaus as Fire Chief, and Charles Warnken, Sr., as Assistant Chief.  Their
