Palominos Give Back This Holiday Season

The Little Palomino Gift Tree, located in the Student Center, Room 100, is stocked with the names of 115 Little Palominos who need a present this holiday season. Swing by the Student Life Office to select a recipient, then drop off your gift donation no later than Wednesday, Dec. 8. You may help wrap the gifts on Thursday, Dec. 9. Parents should pick up the gifts on Friday, Dec. 10. Call (210) 486-3125 for more information.

CPS San Antonio Utility Assistance Program Available for Students

The Dec. 3, 2010, deadline is quickly approaching to take advantage of the CPS Energy and City of San Antonio Utility Assistance Program, which can help you receive up to $150 in credit if you meet the qualifications.

TRIO Upward Bound Students Recognized in National Contest

Through Palo Alto College’s TRIO Upward Bound 2010 Summer Academic Enrichment Program, Raven Aguero from Jourdanton High School and Lupe Hernandez from Pleasanton High School were named as Semi-Finalists in a national Photo Essay Contest.
Upward Bound is a federal program that supports high school students in their preparation for college entrance. Palo Alto’s Upward Bound program serves 70 high school students from Lytle, Jourdanton, Pleasanton and Poteet. Instruction is provided throughout the academic year and during a 6-week summer program. Inventor of Instant Mashed Potatoes to Appear on Campus in February

Black History Month is coming up in February of 2011, and Dr. William Davis and Dr. Jeanette Passty will give presentations to help Palo Alto celebrate this very important month. Their presentations will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 1, in Peder¬nales Hall, Room 109, at 11:25 a.m.
Davis, emeritus professor of Chemistry at St. Philip’s College, developed a love for science at an early age. His discoveries have lead to the invention of instant mashed potatoes, "Kinetic Water," and the mail order laboratory processing of fluids and tissue samples.
Passty, an associate professor of English at St. Philip’s College, has won several prestigious teaching awards. She is the Editor and Chief of SPC Press, and she presents at many national and international conferences. She had the honor of receiving the Katherine Anne Porter Award for her short fiction in 1999.

Welcome Back Week Kicks Off Spring 2011

Palo Alto’s Student Life Office will host a week-long event from Jan. 18-21 to welcome back students. Domingo Vara Chevrolet will host a car show, and free kettle corn will be given away all week. Student-priced tickets for the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo will be on sale starting Jan. 19. Red Bull will give away free drinks on Jan. 21 in the Student Center.
