Student Life wish list explored
The Office of Student Life provides a friendly resource center at Palo Alto College for students to become involved and active on their campus. Student Life offers clubs, organizations, and student government, as well as educational and recreational activities. Palo Alto has 21 registered organizations on campus. They include cultural, recreational, religious, governance, honor, social, political and service organizations. Students are encouraged to take part in co-curricular activities, and Student Life offers students the ability to form a club, develop leadership skills and plan special events. Dr. Daniel Rodriguez, director of Student Life, tries to offer something for everybody, like the recent PACfest, which his office helped organize with Palo Alto's Public Relations Office. However, some students, like Mike Zipper, have some serious concerns about the Student Center. Zipper, a freshman who's majoring in Computer Networking, said, "We need a game room, chess, pool and video systems." Sherry Moran, a freshman who is majoring in Fine Arts, said, "Fix the wireless, and we need…computers." The Cyber Café, housed next to Student Life's office, was shut down for Student Government and student clubs to use as a meeting place. Francisco Martinez, alumni/staff, said, "We need more microwaves for students, and please clean up after yourself!" In response to these concerns, Rodriguez said, "We do have pool and ping-pong tables, but they are in the gymnasium. As for the microwave situation, it is concern. It is very high energy, and with a third microwave, it will overload the electric system." For more information, please contact Rodriguez at (210) 486-3100 or Gabby Rangel, office supervisor, at (210) 486-3125. The Student Life Office is located in the Student Center, Room 100, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays; however, the office will be closed on Fridays during May, June and July for summer hours. |
