Excitement, laughter and sadness are some of the emotions that reel movie viewers in to watch, making them instant classics. College students, faculty and staff all enjoy a great flick and adding them to their personalized list of favorites. Any relation to a movie keeps viewers watching, even when they've seen a movie over and over. Films of comedy, horror, drama and family entertain those who need a breather from Palo Alto College.

"Yo guys! Sup?" Comedies like 2007's "Superbad," a movie involving young teenagers trying to find themselves as they prepare for college, is a favorite.

Stephanie Martinez, a Marine Science major, said "The girl that throws the party in "Superbad," she just throws the party for the fun of it. She doesn't drink. She just wants to have fun. When I was in high school, stuff like that I can relate to, the feeling of what's going on because it's their senior year and they're going off to college. They want to party and have fun."

"Hot Tub Time Machine" (2010) featuring an older generation of males trying to reconnect with their inner youth. "Joe Dirt" (2001) about a man trying to find his family, not realizing he had one all along. Both are also fan favorites. Instant classics contribute to student and professors' everyday lives when it comes to having a good time. A line can always be used from a movie to connect the viewer to the film. "Alls I got to do is keep bein' a good person. No matter what, good things'll come my way."

The classic film released in 1988 "Nightmare on Elm Street," Freddy Krueger enters the dreams of characters as they attempt to keep from falling asleep. "You can check in, but you can't check out." This film became an instant classic with everyone who viewed the film recognizing Freddy. He has been featured with another all-time favorite in "Freddy vs. Jason." Constant remakes and continuations are what keep Krueger alive and fans always come back for more. Freddy will be released into theaters again on April 30, 2010. "Tell 'em Freddy sent ya."

The all-time drama favorite, "Forrest Gump," (1994), brings sadness and triumph throughout the film, leaving viewers feeling like they can overcome any obstacle life hands them.

"I like Forrest Gump. I used to do the impression as a kid," said Matthew Hernandez, a Kinesiology major.

Family movies may be the best way to and a day with classics like "The Goonies"(1985), "E.T." (1982) and any Disney movie ever made. Taking time to enjoy a family friendly movie can really help relieve stress.

"I can watch "Father of the Bride II" (1995) over and over, every time I see the movie, I cry, because it reminds me of my daughter and me being pregnant at the same time. I had the exact experience happen to me at my late age as the movie. The whole family can sit down and watch it," said Sylvia Salazar, the head cashier in the Palo Alto Bookstore.

No matter what film genre is your favorite, try watching a different classic. Connecting with a film can always come in different ways whether it be laughing when you're sad or crying when your happy.
