Students share concerns with chancellor

Students gathered Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2009, in Room 109 of Palo Alto’s Fine Arts Building to meet with Chancellor Bruce H. Leslie and Alamo Colleges Board of Trustees Chair Denver McClendon.
Topics discussed were concerns students had with the cost of textbooks, the lack of a crosswalk leading from the main campus to the Applied Technology and Science & Workforce Buildings, the increased cost of day care and its effect on students’ pocket books and single accreditation.
Single accreditation means the joining of all the Alamo Colleges to form one college. Student Government Association President Karissa Hernandez said she thought the subject wasn’t brought up enough, but SGA plans to continue informing students about this issue. SGA’s office is located in the Student Center, Room 115, and their e-mail is PAC-SGA@alamo.edu.

Business students aid those in need

Students from the Ambassadors of Business Organization held a food drive in November to benefit some of Palo Alto College’s students and their families.
ABO was able to collect enough money and food donations to assist 16 families, which totaled approximately 63 adults and children. The donations varied from baby food and formula to spaghetti and peanut butter. The biggest surprise was a 20-pound frozen turkey that was anonymously donated and left at the Business Management office of Club Sponsor Elsa Anaya.
Student-decorated food boxes were delivered to the PASSkey Office for distribution before the Thanksgiving holidays. ABO students initiated the food drive when they learned that some of Palo Alto’s own students needed support.
ABO students who helped included Patty Moreno, Chuck Moya, Joseph Pais, Christopher Earl, Eric Threat, Rudy Guzman and Dashira Cardona.
