Turn your cell phone into a microwave |
Wondering what to do with your old television or electronics? Recycle them!
Throwing them in the trash is harmful to the environment, because these devices contain toxic chemicals, such as mercury and lead.
It is free and simple to recycle your old working and non-working computers, monitors, printers, fax machines, keyboards, mice and power cords. Technology Recycling at San Antonio will even pick the electronic items up at your doorstep at no cost to you. All you have to do is call Technology Recycling at (210) 967-5400.
It is a little more difficult to recycle your TV. However, Corona Visions Inc. at 411 N. Medina St. will take your Sony, LG, Zenith and Goldstar brand TVs for free. They will charge about a dollar per pound for any other brand. You may also donate your working TV to Goodwill, or if you plan to upgrade to a new digital TV, Bjorns will actually buy back your working or non-working TV at $2 per inch.
On Feb. 17, 2009, all over-the-air antenna (rabbit ears) signals will switch from analog to digital. If you receive your signals through an antenna, you may buy a converter box or buy a new digital television. For further information, visit
www.dtv.gov.

Friends arent letting friends drive drunk |
San Antonio has seen a steady drop each year for DUI and DWI offenses. San Antonio Police contribute this drop to increased patrol and the implied consent law. According to dui.com, implied consent means that when you sign your name to obtain a Texas drivers license, you agree to submit to a blood or breathalyzer test when requested to by law enforcement.
Though the numbers are dropping, San Antonios numbers are still high compared to the national average. San Antonios Police Chief William McManus said that in the year 2006, 142 people died in car accidents, and 50 percent of those had alcohol to blame. Just last year McManus said that 4,220 adult DWIs and 4,470 public intoxication citations were issued.
