Construction Update
With the passage of the 2005 bond, Palo Alto received $55 million for enhancement of the college’s infrastructure and the renovation of existing buildings. Those efforts can now be visibly seen around campus.
Some of the completed projects include the creation of more than 200 parking lot spaces in front of the Performing Arts Building and renovations/additions to the Fine Arts Building. The new Vet Tech Building is expected to be completed by the end of 2007 for Spring 2008 classes, while renovation of the Performing Arts Building is expected to last until February 2009.

Mariachi Palomino competes in Mexico
The mariachi ensemble from Palo Alto College participated in a contest held Sept. 3-5 in Guadalajara, Mexico.
“Being our first year of participating, the experience was one of ‘once-in-a-lifetime,’” said Mariachi Palomino Director Juan Ortiz, who reported that the contest featured 45 mariachi ensembles.
Among the instruments being judged were brass (trumpets), strings (1-2-3 strings, bass (guitarron), rhythm section (vihuela and guitars), harp (arpa), and vocals (vocales).
“The exposure to so many great mariachis gave us a feeling of going back home and rehearsing with a stronger sense of urgency!” said Ortiz.
Palo Alto College’s mariachi ensemble will perform at El Dia de Los Muertos Community Altar along with the jazz ensemble and the conjunto ensemble on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. in the college’s courtyard.

ACC parking permits change
The Alamo Community College 2007-2008 vehicle registration decals have been given a different design. The new decal no longer hangs from the rear-view mirror as before, but it is now a sticker displayed on the outside lower left corner of the back windshield.
According to the ACC Department of Public Safety, all motor vehicles must have a properly displayed and valid parking permit to be able to park on any ACC campus. Palo Alto College students may stop by the Bursar’s Office in the Student Center to purchase a one-year permit for $21 or individual semester permits from $7 to $11.
Students who do not purchase the required permit could be subject to a citation and fine from the ACC Department of Public Safety. The fine will be $12 if paid within 10 days. After 10 days, it will cost $18. Replacement decals (lost or stolen) will cost $8.
