Cesar Chavez March set
The 10th annual “March for Justice,” honoring the Chicano Civil Rights Activist Cesar E. Chavez, will be held on March 25, 2006. The assembly begins at the Avenida Guadalupe, 1321 El Paso, from 10 a.m. until noon. The march begins at noon and concludes at the Alamo. Volunteers needed, no experience necessary
The Medina River Natural Area is looking for volunteers to become field guides. No prior experience or knowledge is needed. The only thing requested is that you have time to volunteer, be willing to learn, have an interest in nature and want to share it with others. A field guide will spend 2-3 hours with small groups of school children or visitors telling them about the natural sights they see on the trail. The natural area opened in April 2005 and is designated one of San Antonio’s five natural areas. Admission is free. The park is located at 15890 Highway 16 South. Students rope in rodeo scholarship

This past February, nine Palo Alto students interned for the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo to receive a $1,000 scholarship. The duties they had included assisting with checking in rodeo contestants, supervising the clean up of the horse stables, and working in the sheep/goat area. They were supervised by Weldon Riggs, instructor of Agriculture/Landscape and Turfgrass Management. Ivy League recruits students

Student athletes complete seasons
Swim and dive team members Nick Earwood, Carlos Landeros and Kyle Friesenhahn competed at the NJCAA swimming and Diving Championships at Palo Alto College March 1-4. The team finished 13th in the overall standings.

The men and women’s basketball season also came to an end. Women’s team–Amanda Vasquez, Maranda Ochoa, Valerie Longoria, Kimberly Olivares, Crystal Torres, Amber Ramirez, Leanda Martinez, Ashley Cortez, Kristen Minor and Priscilla De Los Santos–placed second in the extramural tournament and had the best regular season record. The men’s team–Chris Buckley, Santiago Lopez, Isaac Ledesma, Kevin Daniels, Irvington Ray, Robert Pratt, Santos Diaz, Donnell Weary, Jeremy Hammond, Cory Litzner, Roy Ortiz, Renee Gonzalez and James Lee–had the league’s best regular season record. -Kyle Friesenhahn

Palo Alto’s president honored
Dr. Ana M. “Cha” Guzman, the Palo Alto President, was nominated for the 2006 Martin Luther King, Jr. Distinguished Achievement Award, which is given out annually. An individual in the community is recognized for their personal beliefs, qualities, and values consistent with those of the late Dr. King. -Stephen Jupe

Ford foots the bill to Washington, D.C.
The 2006 Ford Motor Company and the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute Leadership program will select eight college students from California, Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico to travel to Washington, D.C., for a 6-week internship program. The deadline to apply is April 14, 2006. Students will attend professional leadership development workshops while learning about public policy from June 17 through July 29, 2006.
