Palo Alto College will be entering the upcoming Fall semester with new freshman-and sophomore-level classes and a wide variety of new certificates.

“I was not aware of all the new classes offered,” said Bebe Smith, a first semester Radiology Technician major here at Palo Alto.

New classes being offered at Palo Alto College include MRKG 1311: Principles of Marketing and MRKG 1301: Customer Relations; music classes, such as MUEN 1155: Conjunto Ensemble, and MUSI 1310: American Music/Tejano Appreciation; and self-paced Math classes 0300, 0301, 0302, and 0303.

“With the self-paced class the student sets his or her own pace and, therefore, students can spend extra time on that topic,” said Bill Krant, one of the self-paced math instructors.

Students may also earn a variety of certificates, including a Business Management Certificate in International Business, Administration, Supervision, Marketing, Leadership or Entrepreneurship.

Students may now earn a Marketable Skills Certificate, such as Customer Service Clerk, Data Entry Clerk and Office Clerk.

Three levels of Coaching Certificates are also available through the new Palo Alto Coaching Academy: youth sports coach, head sports coach and high school-level coaching.

Students interested in becoming a Library Technology Assistant can look forward to two new Library Technology classes. BMGT 1345: Communication Skill for Managers: Intro to Libraries and LBRA 1391: Acquisitions and Cataloging are being offered.

“The certificate prepares students for career opportunities in libraries,” said Colby Glass, Chair Department of Libraries and Information Studies.

For more information about any of these new classes or certificates, contact the department’s chairperson.

More new class information can also be found on pages 58-64 of the Maymester, Summer, and Fall 2004 Schedule. A list of Faculty Advisors and where to contact them is available on pages 14-15.
