Worry-free transfer help

Even though transferring to a four-year university may seem ages away, it’s not too soon to start thinking about the process it takes to get you there.

Plenty of services and help are available. Palo Alto’s Welcome Advisement Center in the Palomino Center is open four days a week, and they have everything from transfer information to degree plan guidance available for you.

Rachel Wilson, a Criminal Justice Major, said she did not know where to go for help.

“I did not realize all that the Welcome Advisement Center had to offer. I will be sure to go by and look into my degree plan more in-depth,” said Wilson.

The Welcome Advisement Center is a place you will find friendly people like Charley Garcia, an Education Support Specialist. Garcia offered five quick tips on what he called “The Secrets to Transfer from PAC to the four-year university”: 1) Plan ahead; 2) Investigate your choices; 3) Choose the right institution; 4) Get organized; and 5) Develop a strategy.

One other option is to go onto the Palo Alto Web Page and look into the new Degree Audit. This is a program where you have a chance to model your degree plan and look ahead to see what classes you still need to take.

Junior Psychology Major Judith Peterson, who recently transferred from Palo Alto College to University of Texas at San Antonio, suggested that you make sure the classes you are taking transfer to where you plan to attend. Three months into her classes at UTSA, she is still having trouble getting her credits finalized.

No matter if it is moral support or a professional’s advice, you will find plenty of help at the Welcome Advisement Center. The staff is standing by to help students reach their dreams.

The Welcome Advisement Center is open Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., in PC room 124.
