Palo Alto students make Aristotle proud
Palo Alto College students won second place at the Regional Ethics Bowl held
at St. Marys University on Nov. 1, 2003. Palo Altos team competed
against 18 universities from the South Texas area, including St. Marys,
University of Texas-Austin, Texas Lutheran University, UT-Pan American and Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi.
Eastfield College, a college in the Dallas Community College District, won first
place. Eastfield and Palo Alto were the only two community colleges in the competition.
Congratulations to Justin Felux, Eunice Castillo, Lisa Tellez, and team coach
Dr. John Hernandez for a terrific finish.

Arts center brings dance program to PAC
In association with the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, Palo Alto College will
offer a new collaborative dance program beginning in January of 2004. Classes
will provide Mexican Folklorico and Spanish Folklorico dance and will be held
on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 7:45 p.m. in the Gym, Room 202.
To celebrate the partnership, the Guadalupe Dance Company performed traditional
Mexican Folklorico and Spanish Flamenco dances during Palo Alto Colleges
International Education Week on Friday, Nov. 21.

H.S. equivalency graduates its first two students
Palo Alto Colleges High School Equivalency Program (HEP) graduated its
first two students, Cesia Ruiz and Victor Castillo, in August 2003.
Ruiz is currently enrolled at Palo Alto College and plans to get a degree in
Social Work at the University of Illinois. Castillo plans to attend a degree
program in the spring.
HEP is part of the Palo Alto Adult Education Program and is a free Migrant Education
Program that meets that needs of migrant and seasonal farmworkers in pursuit
of a GED. HEP provides on-going GED preparation, payment of GED test costs,
tutorial services, career advisement, assistance for placement in higher education,
assistance with transportation, academic and vocational counseling.

Rey Feo Parent-Child Sholarship
awarded
Abraham Cabrera, a work-study student in the Reading Lab, recently received
the LULAC Rey Feo Parent-Child Scholarship through the Alamo Community College
District.
The scholarship entitles Cabreras son to receive up to 100 percent of
his tuition for four consecutive semesters at any of the Alamo Community Colleges.
Cabrera is in his fourth semester at Palo Alto, and he is majoring in Criminal
Justice.
Out of 26 recipients, four other Palo Alto students received the award: Vanessa
Angeles, Cynthia M. Garcia, Karen M. Kramer and Malori Martinez.
Cabrera was the only male to receive the scholarships district-wide.

Jane Hope Memorial Scholarship
Two $300 Jane Hope Memorial Scholarships will be awarded for the Spring 2004
semester. You must be an Education major, a curent student, have a minimum GPA
of 3.0, and demonstrate community or campus service. Applications are available
in the Mathematics Department in the Faculty Office Building, and in the Financial
Aid Office, Palomino Center, Room 113. Applications must be submitted by Friday,
Dec. 5, 2003, to the Math Department.
