An Information Research Certificate program that is designed to help students become information literate, improve their research papers, and to make staying in school easier. The classes teach students how to retrieve information off of the Internet and out of the library for research purposes.

"We have had tremendous feedback and students feel it should be a required course," said Glass. "The program has been very successful and should make a big difference in student success."

There are five classes that must be completed to receive the certificate.

Each class is fifty minutes long and all of the classes are taught by the library staff. The classes are held in the Ozuna Learning Resources Center here on campus.

The first session is Introduction to Information Research, which includes a library tour, introduction to basic research strategy and more.

Session two is Electronic Database Research. This class teaches you how to search and how to use periodical and newspaper databases.

The third class, Documenting Research Papers, emphasizes the latest MLA Handbook with lots of hands-on practice.

With the the fourth and fifth classes focused on Internet Research and Evaluating Information.

All of the sessions may be completed in any order. More than twenty students have completed the program so far. Angelica Zamora, a sophomore Communications major, was the first one to complete the program.

"It is useful if you are going to do research," said Zamora.
