City, South Padre Island and Cancun, Mexico, are just a few of the hot spots
for the upcoming spring break, if you have money. If you dont, you can be a tourist in your own town: San Antonio. Theme parks, Market Square and the Alamo are just some of the sites that bring people to our city. I plan on going to Port Aransas the first weekend, and the second weekend working, said Matt Freise, a Computer Security freshman at Palo Alto. |
Erica Campos,
a Biology freshman, said, I want and look forward to doing inexpensive
things around San Antonio over the break. For around a $100, you can
get a fun-filled week in San Antonio and its surrounding area. Heres
a recommended itinerary: March 9 & 10: Spend the night in the great outdoors at Garner State Park, located in Concan, Texas. The camp sits along the Frio River. The cost for park entry is $5, and campsites are between $10-$17. There are picnic areas, a playground and an 18-hole miniature golf course. For reservations or current conditions, call (512) 389-8900 or 1-800-792-1112. March 11: Visit a natural attraction at Natural Bridge Caverns, located off of Interstate 35 between San Antonio and New Braunfels, exit 175. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A typical North Cavern tour costs $12 for adults, 13 years and up. Call (210) 651-6101 if you have any questions. March 12: Expand your mind with trip to the Witte Museum and the San Antonio Museum of Art. On Tuesdays from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., both museums are free to the public. The Witte Museum is located at 3801 Broadway adjacent to Brackenridge Park, (210) 357-1900. The San Antonio Museum of Art is located just north of downtown, 200 W. Jones Ave., (210) 978-8100. March 13: Revisit the main reasons tourist come to San Antonio: the Alamo and the Tower of the Americas. The Alamo is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free. Located in Hemisfair Park, the Tower of the Americas gives you a birds eye view of the city. $3 will take you to the observation deck. For information, call (210) 207-8615. March 14: Ride one of the largest wooden roller coasters on the planet at Fiesta Texas, just 15 minutes from downtown on Interstate-10 West and Loop 1604, exit 555. General admission costs $35.99. Open daily beginning March 9, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For park information, call (210) 697-5050. March 15: Take a stroll through Brackenridge Park and the San Antonio Zoo, located on 3903 N. St. Marys St. The zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. until sunset. Admission is $7. Call (210) 734-7184 for more information. March 16 & 17: End Spring Break with a bang: Spring Fest at Market Square. Admission is free. Located on 612 W. Commerce. Contact (210) 207-8600 for more information. The city is great, but some students think these options are not as good as going away and changing the scenery. I plan on going to Port Aransas, said Angelique Casarez, a third semester Nursing student. It is closer than South Padre. Make Spring Break as enjoyable as you can, no matter where you spend it. |
