The long-awaited day care for children of eligible students and staff opened its doors at Palo Alto College on October 9. After the long hard work of constructing, building and preparing to open the day care, we have come through, said Wendy Scott, Interim Director of the Ray Ellison Family Center. |
The day care is
now open Monday through Friday, 6:50 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., on a first come/first
served basis. Full-day and half-day programs are available for children
18 months through 4 years of age. Palo Alto students must have a minimum
G.P.A of 2.0 and take six or more semester hours for their children to enroll.
Tuition is $98.00 per week for the full-time program and $49.00 per week for the part-time program. There is a $25.00 non-refundable registration fee per semester, and students must register each semester. Scholarships are available for eligible students. The center gives priority to full-time students over part-time students and to children of students receiving childcare scholarships. The center will hold 66 children and 38 are slots are still available. Nine full-time slots are available to children of Palo Alto College faculty and staff. Two full-time slots are available to children of students who meet all requirements and are assisted by Childcare Delivery Systems (C.C.D.S). No hourly rates are available. The center employs six Child Development Specialists, who hold degrees in Early Childhood Education or Child Development. Four have associates degrees, one has a bachelors degree and one has a masters degree. Kara Myers, a Child Development Specialist employed at the Ray Ellison Family Center, said, We are more than just a day care. We are a child development center.
