At Palo Alto College, students can learn about karate, help those less fortunate than themselves or represent the student body. These are only a few of the 20 organizations that students can get involved with on campus.

Students are given an opportunity for membership in cultural, recreational, religious, governance, honor, social, political and service organizations.   Students can select an organization that ties into their major field of study or they can go with one just for fun.
If a student wants to form their own organization, they may do so by completing an application in the Student Activities Office, Room 123 of the Student Center.
Some students believe that Palo Alto does not have a real sense of community because of its size and its high student turnover ratio. Hence, the reason for clubs and organizations.

“Ever since I joined the earth club, I have met so many awesome people and have had such a great chance to learn more about the earth," said sophomore Joey Ramirez.
The benefits of being affiliated with an organization gives students a more personalized sense of community with their fellow students, faculty and advisors at Palo Alto.

“Being a part of a club kept me out of trouble as a young teen. Now in college, it is helping me to achieve my career goals of being a veterinarian,” said Kelly Burford.

Julie Kern, student advisor for the Catholic Campus Ministry, said that their organization’s mission is to provide a Catholic presence on campus through faith, sharing, social events and leadership training.

The organization is open to all religious denominations and strives to build a faith community here on campus. The ministry meets Wednesdays at noon in GE 138 and lunch is provided for those who attend.

The International Club will have a wide assortment of dishes from different countries to purchase during PACfest on April 22, 1999.

The president of the club, Asad Raja, may be reached at 921-5283. The club meets on Fridays at noon in GE 225. The room number is subject to change.

Cakky Brawley, advisor of the Fine Arts Club, said their club is an outlet for people who want to experience and become more aware of art. During PACFest, the 12-member club will have Fiesta Medals, pottery and artwork, all handmade by Palo Alto students, for sale. Brawley may be reached at 921-5345.

Many things can be learned and experienced while you’re attending Palo Alto. The associations that you make while in college could affect the rest of your life in a positive way. That is why student organizations are such a versatile tool for students here at Palo Alto.
