International Education Championed
Palo Alto College President Enrique Solis believes that international education is an essential piece of the educational puzzle.

"We are truly a global community, and I believe we need to identify international opportunities for our faculty, staff and students," said Solis.

To aid in that endeavor, Solis asked that an International Education Committee be formed here on campus, and he appointed Alba DeLeon, assistant professor in the Fine Arts Department, to serve as liaison to the Alamo Community College District’s International Program during the 1998-1999 school year.

One of the ACCD’s goals is to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to become productive citizens of Texas, the country and the world. Through international education, the District believes that students are able to develop the global perspective needed to be successful in the 21st century.

"We live in a global economy. We are not isolated any more," said Dr. Eduardo Conrado, Director of International Programs for the ACCD. "We need to give our students and our faculty the opporunity to have a global perspective in order to compete in a global market."

In addition, an International Club for all students interested in learning about different cultures is being formed. The organization’s goals are to promote unity among the diversity of ethnic backgrounds represented at Palo Alto College and to host functions that will enrich students’ knowledge of these different cultures.
