Background: Mr. Malcher was born in Wilson County in 1936. He is retired from Lone Star Brewing Company. He has lived on the same piece of land all seventy years he has been alive. He has ranched and farmed the area since he was knee- high to a grasshopper.

Answer: R.W. Malcher
Question: How old are you?
Answer: 70
Question: Have you ever been a resident of Dewees?
Answer: I never lived there. I did spend a lot of time in that area though. Uncle Henry had a place off F.M. 541. I was later executor of the will upon his death, and kept some cattle out there. I never lived on the farm, but I was in the area everyday for those six years before we sold the farm. Plus when I was a kid we visited often throughout my childhood and life.
Question: Did you ever volunteer in anything in Dewees?
Answer: I never volunteered, but I did go to a fundraiser or two at the store. It was a fish fry or a turkey dinner. I can't remember exactly
Question: Can you tell me when the town was founded?
Answer: Not to sure. It was a long time ago that's for sure.
Question: What is life like in Dewees?
Answer: Like any other small farming community. It is a hard life, but a good one that is for sure.
Question: Do you have any family left in Dewees?
Answer: No not since Uncle Henry died back in 1989.
Question: What can you tell me about the store?
Answer: Not a lot it's been there forever. I've eaten a burger or two, and had a couple of beers. Heard a little Bullshit and spread a little.

Answer: Not much there these days a store and a cemetery, and a few scattered houses.
Question: Any old stories to share?
Answer: It was always a good time in Dewees. Either eating dinner at the store or going to a turkey shoot. The beer was always cold and the bullshit was always thick. (Chuckles)
Background:Kevin Malcher was born in 1967. He is currently employed with the State of Texas at a Correctional Facility. He also lives on the same piece of land his dad does. He carries on in the family tradition of farming and ranching.

Question: Are you a resident of Dewees or have you been?
Answer: I never lived there, but it was only about five miles away. I spent a lot of time helping Uncle Henry when I was a kid. Dad would drag us out there and we would spend the day looking for lost calves. After Uncle Henry died Dad ran some cattle out there also.
Question: Did you ever volunteer in Dewees?
Answer: No, but I've been to the store for a benefit raffle and a couple of barbecue's

Answer: No.
Question: Where does the town get it's name?
Answer: I think from the Dewees family

Answer: Not many.
Question: What is life like in Dewees?
Answer: I imagine pretty boring.
Question: Do you have any family in Dewees?
Answer: Not anymore Uncle Henry died.

Answer: It's old.

Answer: What landmarks? There is a store, and a cemetery.

Answer: Not any important ones come to mind.
Background:Lance Malcher was born in 1969 he is R.W.'s youngest son and Kevin's little brother. He has a masters in psychology and works part-time at Maverick restraunt outside Floresville. He is still very involved in farming and ranching and lives in Poth.

Answer: No, but Daddy used to drag us out to Uncle Henry's place to round up strays lost in the brush.

Answer: Not that I can remember.

Answer: No.

Answer: From the Dewees family.

Answer: Not sure.

Answer: Boring.

Answer: Yeah, but they are all dead.

Answer: It is a shitty little place to grab a beer and a burger.

Answer: Not much there just a store and a cemetery.

Answer: It is just a speck on the map. I've been to a fish fry there before. A couple of bachelor parties, but those are sealed by marriage.

Answer: Pretty boring, but it is a good place to raise a family.

Answer: Yes my wife and two kids.

Answer: It has been there as long as I have been alive. They serve hamburgers and you can grab a beer, and hear the local gossip.

Answer: Yes; it is a small community with great family values. I'm glad I moved here it is a good place to raise a family. The people around here really take care of there own.
Background:Emil Baumann is Rob's grandfather. He was born in Dewees. He also worked at Schneiders Store. He and his grandson have cattle together.

Answer: I never lived in town, but I lived on a farm not far from there.

Answer: I think in the twenties or thirties.
Question: Where does the town get its name from?
Answer: The Dewees family.

Answer: Five or ten I think.
Question: What is life like in Dewees?
Answer: Pretty quiet I imagine these days.
Question: Do you have any family in Dewees?
Answer: Yes; my grandson and his family.
Question: What can you tell me about the store?
Answer: I worked for Mr. Schneider in 1930. I pumped gas at his store. I also went to Poth to pickup groceries or Mrs. Schneider. I used to work for a dollar a day from sunrise to sundown. It was hard, but it was good money back in those days.
Question: Is there anything else you would like to share?
Answer: I remember filling these deep holes with hay. We would let tem ferment, and then dig them up. We used to feed this to Mr. Schneider's cows.
