Stop in Luling during one of their yearly five events. The Roughneck B-B-Que and Chili Cookoff is held the first Saturday of April. It is sponsored by the Luling Area Oil Museum Association and hosted by the Oil City A's. The annual Luling Watermelon Thump Festival is held the last Thursday through Sunday of June. Beginning in 1954, as tribute to the local watermelon growers, it continues to grow and gain national recognition. Everything you can find to do with a watermelon, they have it and more.
There are two Guinness Book of World Records that have been set in the Annual Seedspitting Contest. One was 64 ft. Amazing! As Luling resident Barbara Clark put it, "we teach our kids to spit watermelon seeds since they were babies." Other than the seedspitting, you can find a carnival, entertainment, children's stage, beer garden, food booths, crafts, games, a parade, contests, and a rodeo. Who could have thought you could have so much because of a watermelon?
The Annual Watermelon Spit Fesitival is held in the Watermelon ThumpPavillion. |
Also there is Night in Old Luling Festival, held the second Saturday in October. The Annual Christmas Arts and Crafts show held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Lastly, for the first time this year the Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a style show sometime in November.
