You can get a scenic overlook at Zedler Dam as the tranquility of San Marcos River cascades over and winds its way to the coast. This peaceful view can be seen from Southside Park, at Highway 80 where picnic tables are available.
Palmetto State Park, a 178-acre park, is a unique nature area located approximately eight miles south of Luling off Hwy 183 on Park Road 11 South-considered a scenic drive. It offers a year round 10k Volksmarch Course, nature walks, hiking trails, and bird and wildlife viewing. It is home to over 240 bird species and even an untrained eye can spot some. You might even spot a white-tailed deer or racoon. The park is situated in a rare swamp and uncharacteristic tropical zone. Located on San Marcos River there is fishing, swimming, pedal boats to be rented when the season permits, and a playground, all activities that can be done to pass the time. Many camper or tent sites are available. Some have electricity, or water, or sewage. A dumping station, showers, for campers, and grills are available. There is an entrance fee at $2 per person. If you want something a little more exotic there are two wildlife parks near Luling. The Buffalo Roam Wildlife Drive-Thru is a working ranch with exotic game and a petting zoo, located on IH 10 about 10 miles west of Luling. Noah's Land Wildlife Park has strange animals in natural state, located 5.5 miles north of IH 10 on Hwy 304. Wildflowers are abundant along side of the highways during spring and summer. You should check with the Chamber of Commerce office to find the best time of year to see them.
