How long have you lived here in Fashing?
I have lived here for 62 years. I came from the town of Linze and a family of 10 brothers and sisters.
How does your family make ends meet here in Fashing?
We farm a little but mostly Ranching cattle is our main source of income. I also sell eggs from my 120 laying hens to Cambellton stores. I have more customers than I have supplies.
Do you have any Children?
Yes, I Have four children, one boy and three girls. Their ages are 61, 58, 55, and 51 not specifically in that order.
Do they live here?
Only one lives here and works at the school in Karnes City. The others live elsewhere here in Texas though.
Do you know who built the church that you go to?
No, But I do know that it was built in 1934, and my family helped build the church by donating the land.
Do you have any relatives nearby here?
I have a brother here who is 94 and still drives a tractor - farming the land doing what he loves to do!
When did the community of Fashing stop picking cotton?
After or during the major drought in 1963 or 1964.
What would you like to say about the family environment here in Fashing?
Everyone is very nice here and everyone knows everyone.
I wish we would not have stopped picking cotton because back then -
The families stuck together better when we were picking cotton, we worked hard and spent lots of time together.
Who built your house?
We built our own house and then we added on more and more.
How many people do you think live here in Fashing?
Less than 100 for sure, but probably about 50 people today. Mainly because nobody has any children today around here
The community here is mostly old people. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't change a thing.
