Bowen Descendents Visit Pleasanton
John G. Bowen of Pleasanton who, as everyone knows, is the grandson of John Bowen, the founder of Pleasanton, had two visitors this week, his brother Francis of San Antonio and Mary Elizabeth Bowen of New York, great great granddaughter of the founder. They were here to see and inspect John's Project No. 1 of the Bowen Foundation, St. Francis Villa, 28 units of low-cost housing for Senior Citizens at 715 Trade Avenue.
While visiting here, John took the opportunity to show them the bronze marker on the town square noting the founding of Pleasanton on September 11, 1858.
John also showed them the letter, in the handwriting of the founder, which explains the origin of the name "Pleasanton".
The letter reads: "Herewith I give you the map of the town which I have called 'Pleasanton' in memory of an old settler and friend of mine." (The name of the old friend was J. Pleasant).
